The Verdigris Collection

I would like to share with you a bit of what I am going through in the past few weeks
As I think it has a great impact on my work, my creations and therefore my jewelry collection that you get to wear
I spend most of the past few weeks next to my grandmother bad in the hospital and the Elderly intuition, Most of the time the things you get to see in such places makes you think how come you did not get blind yet.

It also made me think more about the meaning of jewel, the fact that people admire jewelry since the beginning of time, jewelry perceived as something timeless, ageless, that  can never be broken or ruin, that will always keep its value, compare to textile that can ruin in ravages of time and climate.

Which also lead me to think about the human body ,our own body as we preserve it to make sure it won't wrinkle anywhere, won't betray us, and won't change, and  in case it does forge a bit we can always use Photoshop.

What will happen if instead of making sure my jewel won't get tarnish, greenish or corrupted in any possible way, I will let it live, breath and grow its own corrosion to get its beautiful unique fingerprint like no one else got?
And this is the short version of how you got the Verdigris collection
To be continued...

Forgotten with lost time
Corrosion colors are lurking in the depth
aging the metal treasure hiding in the dark

TLV Fashion Week

I had an amazing day at Tel Aviv Fashion week yesterday
My preview for A/W 2013 collection was presented with Duende Knitwear by Adva Bruner
and I was excited like a little girl in a Candy shop.
It is the second time that Tel Aviv City is having an Israeli Fashion week, and it felt like watching a new baby learning how to walk.
With an atmosphere of a friendly, artistic neighborhood. Shows running late in oriental Jaffa time zone. I was so happy to meet my school friends, my facebook friends and watch their creation walking the Runway show.
Milan has one fashion week and so does Paris; Tel Aviv now has two… designers sitting with their families in the Audience. Establish designer who was there to support his students at the generation to come…
French buyers who told me: everyone is so smiling and talking here, this would never happened in Paris, and you know what, I guess they are right.
The intimacy and the size of our fashion week left a room for creative upcoming designers that would not be able to afford a "real" fashion week show budget. And it was a great privilege to see their work.
I was a proud to be a part of this Fashion event and I am curious to see how the next Fashion weeks will grow and develop.

For the Love of Textile

I Love Textile, I adore Textile, the idea of a single thread turning into a whole fabric/cloth/garment seem like a true magic to me.
This ancient almost "unattractive" word "Textile", fill me with joy, with thoughts of a far away old ladies doing their daily textile work weaving, crocheting, creating their fantasies and making their leaving everywhere they go with bare hands and piece of yarn.

This is my piece of heaven, bringing the textile idea/ideal to the front row,
No more a material we use to get something out of… but a stunning jewelry piece that stand and shine on its own.

Once upon a time

.When I was 12 years old, my grandmother taught me how to sew
"A girl with golden hands will never run out of work" she said.

High tech and computers were not an option I supposed…

She grew up in Istanbul, Turkey, in the early days of World War 2, the old rich uncle hides all his fortune under the tree in the backyard, and unfortunately he also went mad during the war.

The treasure location was lost and the rich family that was used to eat with sterling silver spoons turned over night to beggars.

Frankly grandmother did not care much; the rich uncle was miser anyway and …she did not get much of the sterling silver food before or after the war
She was traveling around with her sewing machine up and down the stairs fixing rich people clothing.
When she arrived to Israel she did exactly the same thing only here and without the stairs part.

Teaching sawing, making garments, teaching synthetic fur teddy bears making. Filling the house with blue fur pieces, for a clean and healthy air.

And there I was, pushing the teddy bears nose to fit in place. making fabric elastic band and learning to read the endless map of green and red stripes in the Burda fashion magazine of the happy 80's.

If I wanted a new dress, I took my grandmother to see the dress in the store window; from there we took the bus to the fabric district in Tel Aviv, getting enough fabric in 2 colors to make 2 dresses;
one as I wanted (black, blue or grey) and 1 in as she wanted in Red.

Every time that I visit grandma now she always asks "what about the mannequin?" "Do you use the mannequin?"

…For the matter of fact I do

Love you grandma

Fashion Trend Politics

Fashion forecasts are affected by what happens in the globalization of our world,
In times of war it seems to predict announcing convergence back to the bosom of family and home
During periods of social awareness or natural disasters such as global warming the eco chic and recycling trends rise up to our life and become our way of living.
Internet penetration to all forms of our lives has brought the eclectic traditions trend to our live.

And In times of shortage seems those predictions like less is more and maintaining the existing is getting stronger.
Empty and shallow as it pretend to be, merry and lively as it looks from the outside
Fashion is completely influenced by all that happens around
us in the global village

As a Witness, Predictions for 2011-2012 report of variety of materials for making fashion jewelry
we consumers see it in a variety of alternative jewelry treasures,
Most of us do not associate the fact that in light of higher food prices, oil, cotton and other various world resources also recorded a big rise in gold prices
Additionally weakening dollar has caused people to invest in non-primary currency such as gold bars.
The fact is that the jump in gold prices rose by $ 200 in 3 months

the rise of the gold prices brought a rise in silver sterling jewelry as well, as both metal are connected in the stock market.
In the Accessories forecast in returned appeared wonderful paper and cardboard jewelry, wooden bangles studded with precious stones, jewelry made of fabrics yarns and ropes that until now only seen by hanging curtains and textile bedding.
the Material wealth does not come at the expense of sophistication and design quality since that in order to create a fine jewelry from exciting alternative materials requires great skill and polished finish level
For example this beautiful wood bracelet that I came across during my traveling through Etsy shops By Celeste Lambert

she is a jewelry designer, living and working in Wellesley, Massachusetts (USA). Who earned a degree in Studio Art from Mount Holyoke College and have been working as a jeweler for the past five years and as a printmaker for nearly twenty years. As you can see in her web site www.celestelambert.com,
That features both of her mediums of work.  Interestingly, Celeste says that
"it was through printmaking that I initially recognized the opportunity in designing jewelry. I had collected some beautifully figured wood veneer with the intent of using it for a substrate for a printed image. I realized that the naturally occurring designs within the wood were so evocative that I shifted my thinking towards ways in which to showcase them. Today, my diverse lines of handcrafted bracelets are created through a process of steam-bending and layering wood veneer. As the jewelry collection has evolved, I have added stainless steel accents to complement the complexity and organic richness of the wood.  I believe that wood jewellery is becoming incredibly popular, not only because of the beauty of natural materials, but because society as a whole is becoming committed to eco-friendly fashion. I am inspired by early American Shaker design, as well as modern architecture, both of which help drive my design process."

Focus groups on Social Media

As the use of online social networks in particular as increased created a new term "social listening"
Quantity of "likes" received this product or other on Facebook and Twitter becomes a significant tool in understanding the brand.
Our personal relationship with designers and artists is becoming more and more intense, we are involved in the life story, what they are wearing this morning, and a plenty of personal philosophies shared with us throw the social media each day.
It seems that the traditional methods for managing consumer behavior market research are now developing a new age.
Large companies tend to use established focus groups to get their customers real-time response.
These focus groups are built from group of people gathering for a guided discussion to discover patterns among the various participants. Open discussion allows extracting genuine emotional responses that can't be produced from a simple interview.
Although the ability to talk with the client face to face in the shop is irreplaceable, small businesses or young designers often do not have the budget or the store to run them.
On the other hand for your Facebook page, you can upload a variety of products, e.g. clothing

to get feedback from the consumers and track their buying habits.

A fact that you must remember thought is that not all the demographic population, especially people of the 50 + are not connected to this parallel virtual world, which younger generation spends most of their free time.
There are methods that allow understanding the consumer behavior and motivation which covers social media, which allows listening to what is being said and ask what the diverse populations might think about a variety of themes and ideas.
The big secret is identifying trends in open forums. Open discussion among participants to identify trends as they appear, and then analyze and understand whether this is important or not.
Tracking Facebook and Twitter is just one component of consumer behavior research, originally it intended to complete the complete picture for the rest of the information being collected, but for a small business it may be a valuable tool mainly due to economic feasibility.
When we use social networking for an opinion .we must know who the target audience that provides the answer in order to know how much weight the answer should have in a product analysis. enthusiast Consumer, a returning customer, loving mother ... someone who doesn't want to buy from me at all. Maybe a dissatisfied customer, painful as it might be these may be the most valuable and true opinions I can get. But please gently, I'm still a sensitive designer...

Focus groups allow tracking problems before they happen, social media will analyze the event after it happened. When I published my product on the network it already been created ...
Focus group will target people who are or might be potential customers. Social media pulls random comments from people who never thought to step on my doorstep.
Focus group allows testing the product in hand. Social network uses pictures and rumors.
Focus group let's put out fires in real time while the social network has to react to something already posted and everything is known and visible in advance.
Even in minimum investment it is possible to make a market survey to the small business.
Dressing my own products and examining people reaction can help,
Not counting loving mother's response off course. Keep in mind that the majority of those who did not like your product won't spit in your face once you departure to the street. (Unless in extreme cases only.)
Personal invitation for a group of customers to get their opinion about the product, personal telephone survey also may yield results when a special benefit or gift is offered, they certainly will be happy to cooperate.
Check prices and parallel market for existing products is very important even if it is not the same exact product, what the client is willing to pay for a similar product could give you an idea of the price sale option of your product on the market.
There is no substitute for direct contact with customers, and therefore there is no escape from standing with your products at the fair and see the responses. Always keep in mind that the place or audience might not always be optimal to test your product,
So if you're going have a jewelry line for a 50+ lady and you are standing at the entrance of "Justin bieber" show of, it is not right place to draw conclusions.
The Internet is a useful research tool to gather important information about your business, as well as business competitors, if you're looking for an exhibition that matches your product .search on Google for their Participants list. Check their merchandise, if you have an exclusive line of bridal gowns and your fair is full with pile of plastics from the Far East
probably it is not

the right place to sell your products.
